Designflow Spielmann’s appointed on €250m President’s Hospital in Kazakhstan

Designflow Spielmann’s seals €25m deal in Astana

Designflow Spielmann’s the Dublin-based commercial furniture and interiors’ company has secured a €25m contract for a landmark hospital fit out for the President’s Hospital in Astan the capital of Kazakhsan. This is the first joint project won following the merger of Designflow with German company Spielmann’s Officehouse, in October, and is a significant success for the firm.

Designflow Spielmann’s has been appointed to fit out the €250 million hospital project in its entirety, including all medical equipment and furniture. It is major coup for the company’s specialist hospital team, which beat of stiff competition from a number of European competitors.

The two hundred bed President’s Hospital is a joint venture between the national government’s of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as the regional government of the State of Bavaria.  This landmark project is being developed by the Dr Hein Group to bring Germany quality health care to the oil rich state.

Robert Trench, Managing Director of Designflow Spielmann’s, commented:

The winning of this tender is a huge success for our group in what is a key sector for the company. This is a landmark international project that will bring best practice in medical care to the heart of Kazakhstan’s health system. The standard of the hospital will be exceptional; it is being described as a ‘lighthouse project’ that is designed to be a model for the development of similar facilities in the region.”

Designflow Spielmann’s specialist hospital design team, which is being led in Ireland by Robert Trench in Dublin, is now focusing on the medical projects by the Health Service Executive and private hospital operators in Ireland and the UK.

The hospital received planning permission from the Mayor of Astana in July 2008 and is due to be operational in 2011. The facility has a unique architectural design that has been based on the Kazakhstan flag (please see attached image).

In January Designflow Spielmann’s moved into their new offices in Fumbally Square, Dublin 2. They have also recently finished the fit out of Volkswagen’s new Irish headquarters on the Liffey Valley and completed the signing up of two new manufacturers from Continental Europe: the zero-carbon manufacturer Wilkhahn, who are celebrating their centenary this year, and the USM Haller range which is now more than forty years old and is considered such a design classic that it has a permanent exhibition in The Museum of Modern Art in NewYork.

In 2003 Robert Trench set up Dublin’s Designflow to provide high quality furniture, fit outs and interior design to the Ireland’s burgeoning commercial property sector. The company quickly built a rapport with some for Ireland’s top architects and developed an excellent reputation in the commercial sector.

Dietmar Spielmann is an iconic figure in the Germany’s international furniture market. He founded his first company, Objectform, in 1977 and built it into the largest independent fit-out company in Germany before selling out to the Bene, Austrian furniture manufacturers in 1998. In 2000 he started Spielmanns Officehouse and now has seven branches in Germany plus six international offices including: Moscow, two in the Arab Emirates – Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Oman’s capital Muscat and Libya’s capital Tripoli, which they see as a market for enormous growth now that trading sanctions have been lifted.

In October 2008 Spielmann’s Officehouse entered the Irish market with a purchase of 50% of Designflow to form Designflow Spielmann’s.

Designflow Spielmann’s appointed on Audi Ireland’s new showroom concept.

Dublin-based Designflow Spielmann’s this week kicked of the new year in style with their appointment to implement Audi’s new Advanced Showroom Concept exclusively in dealerships across Ireland. This success follows hot on the heels of a similar appointment for Audi dealerships across Germany earlier this year to Designflow’s German partners Spielmann’s Officehouse.

The roll out is being undertaken with Audi’s Irish architects EMD Architects, with Designflow advising dealerships on the implementation of the showrooms’ interior design as well as installing and fitting out the furniture for new concept. The new showrooms have been designed to compliment Audi’s new €190,000 R8 Quattro 4.2 litre supercar that was recently launched (photos enclosed); it is intended to compliment its sleek styling and quality of the Audi brand.

Audi recently expanded it operations in Ireland follow the acquisition of the Volkswagen Group.  With the car market sluggish they are doing everything possible to stay ahead of their competitors; this type of dealer support and brand reinforcement is seen as crucial in securing sales once people come into the showrooms.

Robert Trench, Managing Director of Designflow Spielmann’s, commented on this success: “Audi and EMD architects are great firms to work with so this has come as a welcome Christmas present for Designflow and a testimony to our previous experience and understanding of design within this sector”

The Advanced Showroom Concept includes custom designed furniture and presentation elements, unique to Audi, ensuring the look and feel is unlike any other car showroom with seating from leading manufacturers such as Wilkhahn and minimalist architect John Pawson. The first showroom to be fitted with the new concept is the Michael Moore dealership in Athlone, which is due to completed shortly with two further dealership fit outs in the pipeline.

Spielmann’s Enters Ireland With Designflow Merger

German firms acquires 50% of Dublin firm in unique deal

Dublin, Ireland: Germany’s largest independent office furniture company, Spielmanns Officehouse, has today announced that it is entering the Irish market with a 50% acquisition of Dublin-based company DesignFlow, owned by local entrepreneur Robert Trench.

This type of merger is the first of its kind in the interiors’ sector and was undertaken completely off market. The new firm will now be called DesignFlow Spielmanns and will be owned equally between Robert Trench and Spielmanns’ founder Dietmar Spielmann.

Robert Trench, Managing Director, of Designflow Spielmann, said:

“This is a fantastic deal for such a young company like Designflow; it allows us to target much larger projects at a time when many of our competitors are scaling back their operations. With this funding in place, and the weight of the Speilmanns Officehouse group supporting us, we can now operate as a much bigger player in the market and tender for jobs that previously we would have been considered too small for.

We are honoured to merge with such a reputable company and with their increased network we can now also offer far more product lines to our clients, of which many will be exclusive.”

The deal is a coup for Designflow, which is celebrating only its fifth year in business; it will now join an international network that includes nine offices in Germany and six internationally including: Tripoli, Moscow, Muscat, Abhu Dhabi and Dubai. It will also allow Design Flow to triple its portfolio of suppliers and, crucially, increase the size of individual projects they undertake as they can now meet the pre-qualification criteria for major tenders.

Dietmar Spielman, Chairman of Designflow Spielmann Officehouse added:

We have been carefully expanding our network across Europe for a number of years and are keen to increase our reach into Ireland. Our expansion strategy has always been to find companies with a similar design outlook, quality and vision as Spielmanns and with Designflow we have finally found the ideal match.”

Spielmanns already have a successful track record in Dublin having undertaken the fit out of Depfa Bank’s IFSC headquarters; it was the success of this project that led them to seek an Irish partner.

Spielmanns decided to headhunt Design Flow in 2006 following recommendations from their European-based suppliers and after seeing the similarities of their business models.

Design Flow will now have the support of entire Speilmanns network and will form part of the design teams on their international projects.
